1. Northwest Florida

   Memorial Day tides bring buccaneers ashore for the Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival in Fort Walton Beach. July 4th fireworks reflect off the waters from Panama City Beach to Perdido Key. Panama City hosts "A Dickens of a Christmas" with Friday-night skating and carriage rides.

2. Orlando, FL

   A vacation in Orlando makes a holiday of any day. But the holiday trifecta of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's introduces millions of dancing lights, ice skating exhibitions and magnificent choral ensembles to this world-famous vacation destination.

4. Delaware Beaches, DE

   Visit Delaware's Quiet Resorts for an all-American Independence Day vacation. The annual Bethany Beach 4th of July parade features a patriotic theme followed by a fireworks display. For a delicious slice of Americana, join the annual blueberry pie-eating contest.

5. Hilton Head, SC

   The holiday season on Hilton Head Island means ice skating, a 30-foot Christmas tree and a New Year's Eve ball drop in Harbour Town. The family-friendly Winter Wonderland Festival at Shelter Cove features a candy cane hunt, marshmallow roast and appearances by Santa.

6. Myrtle Beach, SC

   The Grand Strand celebrates our nation's birthday in a big way. In fact there's a whole week of Fourth of July fun in Myrtle Beach. The Broadway at the Beach Independence Day Spectacular includes strolling entertainers, family-friendly activities and two fireworks shows.

7. Charleston's Islands, SC

   A city as rich in history as Charleston is bound to harbor a ghost or two. Come for Halloween and explore a haunted dungeon or jail. Ghost tours range from lighthearted to not-for-the-faint-of-heart. Or, take the kids to a local farm for a day of pumpkin picking and hay rides.

8. Aspen, CO

   In September, the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival presents three days and three stages of world-class concerts from top-name acts. Called "The Hottest 72 Hours of Summer," previous JAS Festivals have included Bob Dylan, Mumford & Sons, and Kid Rock.

9. Summit County, CO

   Each December, the Town of Breckenridge transforms into a Victorian Christmas Wonderland, with carolers in period dress, visits from Santa and holiday decorations on Main Street. On New Year's Eve guests watch the Times Square ball drop from New York City via "BreckVision."

10. Steamboat, CO

    When you take a holiday vacation in Steamboat Springs, keep an eye on the sky at night. The ski resort loves to light up the sky with holiday torchlight parades and spectacular fireworks displays. Watch for them on New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day.

11. Beaver Creek, CO

    Beaver Creek Resort brings American history to life for Presidents Week with PrezFest. Presented by Beaver Creek Loves Kids, the playful presidential events include a patriotic-themed ice sculpture exhibition, costumed characters and a Family FunFest Carnival.

12. Vail, CO

    Vail Family Holidaze starts with a tree lighting in Vail Village, followed by two weeks of Dickens Carolers, holiday concerts and a Candy Cane Patrol. Family Movie Nights feature kid-friendly classics. The celebration wraps up with New Year's Eve fireworks and a torchlight parade.

13. Park City, UT

    When Santa comes to Park City, he rides the Town Lift down to the plaza on Historic Main Street. Torchlight parades at Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley include cookies and cocoa or cider, while Canyons Resort hosts a New Year's Eve bash with a DJ and fireworks.

14. Sun Valley, ID

    On Labor Day weekend, Ketchum Wagon Days rolls into town. Celebrating the area's Old West and mining heritage, the highlight of the festival is the Big Hitch Parade. Pulled by an authentic 16-draft mule jerkline, the Big Hitch is the largest non-motorized parade in the West.
