Central Switzerland is alive with the people and culture of this country that is steeped in history yet always has an eye on the future. The region is dotted with lovely old towns (altstädte), cathedrals, museums and natural beauty.
Lucerne is something of a gateway to the region, with its placid lake and well-known river bridges - some of the most photographed images in Switzerland. You can take a boat trip on Lake Lucerne and take in the amazing vistas. Hop on one of the paddle steamers, some of which are over 100 years old. To take in the majesty of the Alps, travel to the top of Mt. Pilatus via the steepest cogwheel railway in the world.
Feed your artistic side with a trip to Lucerne's Picasso Museum, which displays many of the artist's lesser known works. Or, if you're lucky, you can catch one of the two jazz festivals held each year, which have been known to draw some big names.
Zug is an excellent place to explore a 14th Century castle. The Castle of Hünenberg, once occupied by Henry of Hünenberg, today hosts family dinners and events.
Bern, Switzerland's capital, is a wonderfully preserved medieval city that features such sites as the house where Einstein developed his theory of relativity. And no trip to Switzerland would be complete without a visit to Zurich, where you can take advantage of the fabulous shopping options, take a tour through a chocolate factory or visit the Swiss National Museum.
Whether it's the serenity and beauty or the culture and history that draw you to Central Switzerland, you'll find a place to call home in one of the Swiss apartments or lodges we offer.
