Edinburgh and The Borders
Edinburgh is a city of untold splendor, but there's more to the southern portion of Scotland than the country's capital. Historically, the Borders of Scotland encompass a region including all the government council areas along the south of Scotland on both sides of the line dividing it from England.
Edinburgh, ‘the Athens of the North,' is one of the most resplendent cities in the United Kingdom as well as all of Europe. Like many other metropolitan areas, it has a burgeoning modern district (the Georgian-influenced and commercial New Town) with expansive shopping and impressive architecture. At the same time, the city doesn't turn its back on the past with its southern Old Town extending along the Royal Mile from not-to-be-missed Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace. For more refined tastes, Edinburgh hosts a Museum and National Gallery as well as houses of modern art, portraits, dance and antiquities. Gardens, medieval castles and ruins, the thriving port of Leith, and a pulsating nightlife make Edinburgh a perfect destination for all ages and interests.
When you're ready for more rustic pleasures, travel out to the Borders region. There, you'll find moors and rolling hills throughout the green landscapes, but also rocky coastlines and cozy fishing villages. An air of mystery and legend will accompany you as you visit castles and ruins from whence spun the stories of King Arthur and Merlin, William Wallace and many other mythic figures.
We have Scottish cottages, parks and lodges, resort condominiums and camping when you're ready to return to the modern age for relaxation.
