Family of Woman Film Festival
| he 8th Annual Family of Woman Film Festival will be held at the Sun Valley Opera House February 24 to March 1, 2015
The 8th annual Family of Woman Film festival will take place Thursday, Feb. 26, to Sunday, March 1, 2015, at The Sun Valley Opera House, preceded by The Bonni Curran Memorial Lecture for the Health and Dignity of Women on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
The theme will be “Women and Their Dreams.” Five international films about exceptional women and girls who have taken control of their destinies will be followed by discussions with filmmakers and subjects of the films. Two free matinee presentations and a retrospective of a previous Festival filmmaker complete the slate. Countries represented in the films are Brazil, Iran, India, Nigeria and Syria.
Boise State University will expand its partnership with the Festival, bringing several of the films and filmmakers to BSU.
The Festival was founded to support the work of the United Nations Population Fund [UNFPA], whose mission is to assure women and girls have access to reproductive health care, education and basic human rights. Recently, UNFPA has requested Friends of UNFPA to take on a new role in supporting their critical work in promoting the health and dignity of women. With the support and input of both organizations, The Family of Woman Film Festival will operate with a new fiscal partner, Women Deliver, in 2015.
A leading global advocate for girls’ and women’s health, rights and wellbeing, Women Deliver brings together diverse voices and interests and constituencies from around the world to improve the lives of girls and women in their communities. Women Deliver shares the mission of the Family of Woman Film Festival and will bring another dimension to raising awareness of important social issues through telling compelling stories.
