A Comfy Condo with Challenging Beach Access
My four person family with grandparents in tow, was looking for a last-minute condo rental for an early spring break getaway. As we have a two-year-old, we decided that a first floor unit might be the best for us. We watched the virtual tour video and chose unit 104. Upon arrival, we were impressed with the soaring ceilings and wide doorways. There was plenty of space. The decor was nice but over time we discovered fit and finish issues that could be addressed with careful maintenance such as cabinet doors that detached and hung loosely from their quickly fixed and cheap hinges. Some of this is to be expected in a rental of course. The rooms were clean though and, as I said, nicely decorated, and the large walls of glass in both the master bedroom and the living room area allowed ample light, if not much of a view of the beach. To get a view of the beach you must get to the beach, and that is a bit of a challenge. Stepping outside through the sliding glass doors you must navigate down a a set of stairs or a ramp, around a pool, down another set of stairs, around another pool, and finally arrive at a walkway that will take you onto the beach. But there's more... several childproof gates lie in your path (of course due to the pools) so carrying items to the beach might take a team effort. All that being said, it's really not that bad, but a challenge nonetheless. Now, if you are a wheelchair user like myself -- a rather low probability I'm sure -- you will find that your trek to the beach will be even longer: down the elevator to the ground floor, through a parking lot, around a long winding walkway at the condo next door, and finally to that same walkway out to the beach. I did not expect to be able to get on the beach from the walkway so I was not disappointed that the walkway ends in several steps. Either way -- my circuitous route or the maze through the pools -- you will be slowed down in your run for the sea. Overall though, it was an enjoyable stay. One final note: when you come, bring your own hairdryer, beach towels, and toiletries (my wife is used to hotels obviously).
