Nordic Skiing in Sun Valley
Known as "Nordic Town USA," Sun Valley boasts 200 miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiing in Blaine County and the Wood River Valley. The Nordic ski season runs mid-November through late April, depending on natural snowfall. The days are typically sunny, the trail system is expansive, and the sport is both fun and affordable.
Much of Wood River Trail System is free and open to the public for Nordic skiing. Other portions are accessible with a modestly priced day pass or season pass. Youth 12 and under ski free on groomed cross-country and snowshoe trails managed by the Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD).
Located at the 58,000-square-foot Sun Valley Club, the Sun Valley Nordic Center is the largest Nordic ski facility in the US and arguably one of the finest. Amenities include a restaurant, lounge, bar and locker rooms. Equipment rentals, repair and storage are also available on site. Our Elkhorn vacation rentals, including the Sunburst Condominiums, offer convenient access to the Nordic Center and winter trails.
Sun Valley's Boulder Mountain Tour, one of the longest running and most respected Nordic ski races in the US, draws nearly 1,000 participants each year. The annual Sun Valley Nordic Festival features events such as cross-country tours and races, parties and apres wine tastings, and the Boulder Mountain Tour Expo.
