The province of North Brabant is one of the biggest in the country, and though it lacks the world-renowned cities of other Dutch provinces, it has one of the largest populations in the country and the most to offer culturally as a result.
The capital city of Hertogenbosch, and Breda are both popular spots for travelers. The capital (also known as Den Bosch) features St. Jan's Cathedral and has given the world one of its foremost Renaissance painters, El Bosco (Hieronymus Bosch), while Breda is the site of a bustling center with the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe Church nearby and the castles of Breda and Bouvigne and its gardens as highlights; Valkenberg Park provides a nature setting in an urban location.
For history, travel to the town of Overloon to visit Liberty Park, which encompasses the National War and Resistant Museum and Marshall Museum. Both museums offer a heavy dose of the vehicles, weapons and other relics from the second world war; in fact, Liberty Park's location is at the very sight of an epic World War II battle.
The Dutch parks and lodges of North Brabant will keep you firmly ensconced in the local aura but also hospitably secluded, if you wish, as you rest up for the next day's journeys.
