On the Croatian peninsula of Istria rests the Ucka mountain range and its surrounding valleys. Ucka mountain at its highest peak reaches 1401 meters and from there it’s possible to see Kvarner, the Dalmatian islands, Velebit, Gorski Kotar and Slovenia. Continuously inhabited since twelfth century in Neolithic times, a number of dvori—summer shelters for local shepherds and their sheep—still exist in in the countryside.
The mountain creates a unique atmospheric phenomena amounting to a lot of rain. Thus, the foliage and wildlife around Ucka is incredible including chestnut forests, golden eagles and the Ucka Bellflower. A Ucka vacation rental or Ucka vacation cottage amidst such natural splendor draws mountaineers, photographers and travelers looking to breathe fresh mountain air.
