Rogaland is a mountainous region known for its mineral deposits, but it also has all the features of other Norwegian travel destinations such as fjords and lush greenery.
Stavanger is the fourth-largest city in the country and the largest in the region; it's also the center of the country's oil commerce. Parts of the town feature old-style wooden buildings, while museums and galleries fete the industry of the region.
The most appealing natural resources of Rogaland are the mountains. Preacher's Pulpit (Priekestolen) is among Norway's favorite traveler's spots as it juts out above Lysefjorden in Forsand. The cliff, which is virtually square and flat, is crowded throughout the summer months. The Kjerag plateau, directly across from Priekestolen, is famous for Kjeragbolten, a huge boulder stuck between two rocks, and as a dive location for BASE jumpers.
One unsung feature of the area is the beach at Solastranden, which is great for sun bathing, swimming surfing or flying a kite. There's also plenty to see including a lighthouse just off the coast.
The well-appointed self catering cottages in the portfolio are just what the traveler needs at the end of a long day checking out the nuances of the region.
