Sogn and Fjordane
Perhaps not surprisingly, the Sogn and Fjordane region is known for its fjords, finger lakes and greenery. The glacial valleys, highlands and open meadows framed by open water—as well as the civilization that has sprung up amidst the flora and fauna—remind the visitor of a simpler, more rustic existence.
Sognefjord is the longest fjord in Europe, and parts of it are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site, but it's not the only fjord of the region. Dalsfjord and Fordefjord, along with Nordfjord, are picturesque and are nestled amongst mountains, islands and glaciers. In fact, Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier in continental Europe.
Among the sights are the glacier museum in Fjaerland, the Borgund stave church in Laerdal and the Urnes state church in Luster, and distinct activities are a ride by rail from Flam to Myrdal, a walk on the Jostedalsbreen glacier or visiting the lighthouse in Floro.
Once you're done walking amongst the hills and dales of the Sogn & Fjordane region, and fished or floated to your heart's content, return to one of the cottages we offer, complete with everything you need in a self catering home away from home.
