Polar Bear Plunge | ||||||||
| If you're looking for a thrill and a chill this New Year's Day, rush into the Atlantic Ocean, or watch others rush in, for the annual Polar Bear Plunge — a special event is taking place down on Sullivan's Island to help the Special Olympics. The Dunleavy's Polar Bear Plunge is New Year's Day outside Dunleavy's Pub on Sullivan's Island. Festivities begin at noon, and the plunge is at 2 p.m. Go down there to make a donation and watch the fun. In the years since then, the plunge became a fundraiser for Special Olympics of South Carolina and has raised more than $200,000 for the cause just by having athletes and supporters pass the hat during the event.
