It's easy to move from lakes and woods to caves and ravines in South Bohemia. Local ridges and rocks give way to stalactite-riddled chambers bearing underground rivers that send clear water into the plains and meadows. It's all part of the flora and fauna that give the region a reputation as perfect for family outings and entertainment.
Contrast that with the bogs and fish farms of the Trebonsko region. The ponds create a neat border around Trebon, a medieval spa town and a departure from the surrounding agriculture of the district. Leave the marshes and minerals to visit Zamek, a sizeable castle that casts a considerable shadow over the surrounding country.
Once you've built up a thirst, head to Ceske Budejovice, a town built on silver mines but renowned for its local breweries. It's not far from Cesky Krumlov, home of an enormous castle on the Vltava River and one of many in the area.
Once it's time to put down your lance, stein or fishing rod, relax in a cozy furnished cottage or apartment, or enjoy the primitive appeal of a campsite.
