Tennessee Marriage Licenses
In order for a wedding ceremony to be performed in the Smoky Mountains, a marriage license must first be obtained from the State of Tennessee. A marriage license from anywhere in the state of Tennessee is valid for a wedding in Sevier County, however licenses are valid for only 30 days from the date of issue.
Couples find it relatively simple to obtain a marriage license in Tennessee. A wedding license may be obtained at a Sevier County Clerk's Marriage Center with no appointment, no waiting period and no blood test. Applicants do not need to be Sevier County residents. Sevier County also offers a convenient Marriage License Pre-Application that can be completed online and printed out to save time at the County Clerk's Office.
To obtain the marriage license, the bride and groom must be over the age of 18 and must appear together in person. Each party must present a social security card as well as a valid driver's license or certified birth certificate as proof of age. Non-US citizens must present a valid passport. Previously married persons must know the exact date their divorce became final or the date of the spouse's death.
The marriage license fee for a Tennessee Resident is $98.50. Non-Tennessee Residents must pay a marriage license fee of $38.50. If either party has a Tennessee driver's license, the full Resident fee is required.
