The Algarve Area
The southern state of Algarve, which melds rocky coastline with glistening beaches, is home to several attractions for travelers interested in sun and fun. Central Algarve is the middle of tourist activity and the most popular beaches, while western Algarve extends from Portimao to Sagres via Lagos and is a little less crowded. Eastern Algarve is only now experiencing development and is the most rustic part of the country.
Faro, the capital of Algarve, has a nostalgic Old Town with a cathedral, archaeological museum and ossuary, while Lagos is home to a 17th century fort with a magnificent view of the town's harbor. There are also fishing towns (Armacao de Pera, Carvoeiro, Portimao) and beach resorts (Praia da Rocha, Monte Gordo, Cabanas, Pedras da Rainha) mixed in with medieval areas (several towns have castles and ruins as well as walled areas, cobbled streets and quaint market areas).
When your day in Southern Portugal ends and it's time to recount your experiences in a comfortable chair with a relaxing beverage and good company, you'll find the perfect place to relax in any of the villas or resort condos we feature.
