Fannin County is heralded as the Trout Capital of Georgia, and fly fishing in Blue Ridge on the Toccoa River is a can't-miss activity for any serious fisherman. On Blue Ridge Lake, anglers can cast a line for largemouth bass and white bass, along with rainbow trout and walleye.
Blue Ridge Lake
On the northeastern shore of Blue Ridge Lake, the Morganton Point Recreational Area is a popular destination for swimming, hiking, boating and fishing. On the northwestern side of the lake, the full-service Lake Blue Ridge Marina rents kayaks, canoes and pontoon boats, as well as paddleboats and paddleboards.
Suches Loop, Georgia's Dragon
Fans of the infamous Tail of the Dragon motorcycle highway know the Suches Loop as "Georgia's Dragon." Featuring blind curves, a few switchbacks and a winding drive along Wolf Pen Gap Road, the curviest road in Georgia, the 42-mile route around the base of Blood Mountain proves as challenging as it is scenic.
Along with the towns of Helen and Dahlonega, Blue Ridge and Morganton form a loop of wineries, vineyards and tasting rooms along the North Georgia Winery Trail.
From scenic trails to charming towns and wildlife to waterfalls, Georgia's Blue Ridge area and the Chattahoochee National Forest offer outstanding opportunities for professional photographers and selfie-snappers alike.
Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
Climb aboard at an historic 1905 train depot and ride the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway over bridges, around bends and along the Toccoa River. The 4-hour round trip includes a layover at McCaysville/Copperhill, a town built on the Georgia-Tennessee state line.
The Restaurant Scene
Downtown Blue Ridge may have a small-town feel, but their restaurant scene is nothing short of upscale. Some of our personal favorites are Black Sheep serving up homemade pastas and delicious seafood with a southern flare or Harvest on Main, thriving on local ingredients that are often organic. This restaurant scene is worth exploring.
Mercier Orchards offers so much more than your traditional apple picking and cider. Grab breakfast or lunch at their deli, topped off with a homemade apple pastry. Pick up some apple cider for the kids and a hard cider for the adults. Mercier Orchards is a stop you want to make sure you make when visiting Blue Ridge.
Water Adventure on the Ocoee River
The Ocoee River is known for its whitewater rafting and was even host to the whitewater slalom events during the Centennial 1996 Summer Olympics. Don't worry, there are whitewater rafting trips for all experience levels, and surely something you don't want to miss while visiting Blue Ridge.Read More
