    Outer Banks Lighthouses

Generations of seaborne travelers and mariners have sought the comfort of these beacons' reassuring light as they navigated perilous channels and shoals that mark the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Perhaps that is why Outer Banks lighthouses, among the tallest in America, have come to serve as beacons of hope and inspiration.

    The Lost Colony

In 1587, 20 years prior to the colony at Jamestown, 116 men, women, and children struggled for existence in the wilderness and vanished without a trace. Their disappearance remains one of the great mysteries of history. No clue of this thriving community has ever been found, save for the eerie carving upon the bark of an old, twisted oak: "Croatan." It is the saga known as The Lost Colony. The play is produced at historic Waterside Theater on Roanoke Island.

    Homeowner Testimonials

See what a few of our homeowner's are saying:

"Sue and I are both retired now and intend to spend a lot more time on the island, and so we have decided to remove 5 O'Clock Somewhere from the Hatteras Realty rental program. It has been a positive experience dealing with HR and if we decide to rent again in the future we will be back. Of course, we still will be dealing with you re. Fiddlesticks, so we will still be in touch." —Mike and Sue Schmidt (5 O'Clock Somewhere)

"Last evening the hot water tank at Afterglow decided to let go and release a lot of water.Sarah, Cheryl Nye's daughter was out walking her dog and observed the water running from under the house. Her fast actions to contact Hatters maintenance after hours team saved serious damage to Afterglow. The response by Sarah, coupled with the fast actions of the Hatteras after hour maintenance team, shows why Hatteras continues to be the very best... I truly thank all at Hatteras for their observations, fast actions and caring attitudes." —Everett Taylor (Afterglow)

"My husband Jim and I are the owners of Hokie-HI and we are in our second rental season with Hatteras Realty. We just added another house on Tarpon Lane called Catch of the Day to your program. I want to thank you and your staff for looking out for the owners and guests. I especially want to commend Marianne O'Neal and Cheryl Nye. Both ladies have helped us tremendously as we navigate the rental house process. Hatteras Realty is by far the best rental company on Hatteras Island and we appreciate everything you do for us." —Marcia Grubbs (Hokie HI)

"Its amazing how only a few hours after the bridge was open Hatteras Realty was able to check tenants in after a Category 2 hurricane. The staff at Hatteras really came together as a team and put in a true effort in getting things in order as fast as possible in order to minimize losses. The communication I received before during and after the storm was crucial in getting repairs started and finished prior to the opening. The damage reports I received right after the storm passing shows how dedicated the staff was in putting their job and their homeowners first above their own needs. The difference between Hatteras Realty and its competitors in response to this storm was noticeable. Some companies practically closed due to shortages of staff and left there homeowners with no communication. The difference in having local staff willing to stay and work through a mandatory evacuation really made a difference. Hats off to all its staff members that stayed and put in the extra time to keep my houses up and running during the height of the rental season." —Chris Sunda (Pelican's Pad, Coral Castle, Heaven's Gate, Blue Waters, Spritsail)
